

Founded in 1897 as a single-unit cotton processing mill to meet the high demand for cotton following the American Civil War, Aditya Birla Real Estate Limited (Formerly known as Century Textiles and Industries Limited) began operations as ‘Century Spinning and Manufacturing Company’.
In 1951, the Birlas gained management control of the company and Century was inducted into the Birla Group. Syt. Basant Kumar Birla (B K Babu), known for reviving textile mills by then, was handed the operational control of the mill.
Under his visionary leadership and guidance of Syt. B. K. Birla, the company diversified into various sectors like Rayon, Nylon, Pulp, Paper, Yarn and Denim, Cement production and was renamed as ‘Century Textiles and Industries Limited’.
In 2008, Birla Century, Textiles division of Century Textiles and Industries Limited was setup in 100 acres in Bharuch, Gujarat. In 2016, Real Estate division was established with construction of commercial properties – Birla Centurion and Birla Aurora.
In 2018, Century Rayon was leased out to Grasim Industries Limited with rights and responsibilities to manage, operate, use and control. In 2019, Cement division was merged with Ultratech Cement. In 2022, the Yarn and Denim division was demerged and in 2023 Textiles division was discontinued.
In 2022, Century Textiles and Industries Limited became a part of Aditya Birla Group and in 2024 was renamed ‘Aditya Birla Real Estate Limited’.
For over 125 years, starting out as a single-unit cotton processing mill and creating presence across wide spectrum of industrial sectors, the Aditya Birla Real Estate Limited (formerly Century Textiles and Industries Limited) has stood the test of time and transformed into a resilient force with underlying philosophy of the Birlas – ‘Philanthropy marked by a steady expansion of business interests.’
